Metal Cast Sculptures

We design and fabricate metal sculpture and civic installations — cut, formed and welded work in sheet and section, finished in metallic patinas and often internally lit. This is the medium behind landmark typographic pieces and monumental civic markers, including our N50 installation for the Noida 50 Years celebration.

The N50 metal cast installation by Graphic Arts lit at night — cut-metal numerals with a city skyline worked into their faces

Landmark installations

A civic landmark has two jobs: read instantly from a distance, and reward a closer look. Our N50 piece for the Noida 50 Years celebration was built on exactly that logic — the numerals read as a marker from across the plaza, while the cut-metal skyline worked into their faces only resolves as you approach.

Lighting is designed in from the start rather than added afterwards. At night the cut cityscape becomes the light source and the piece inverts entirely.

What we fabricate

Monumental numerals, letterforms and city-name markers for plazas and entry points. Commemorative and anniversary installations. Abstract and figurative metal sculpture. Illuminated pieces where the lighting is integral.

Detailed for public sites

Public installations are unsupervised, permanently accessible and exposed. Ours are welded and mechanically fixed rather than adhered, ballasted or foundation-anchored against wind loading, free of sharp edges at hand height, with electrical work sealed and separately accessible for maintenance.

Materials

  • Mild steel sheet and sectionThe structural body of most fabricated work
  • Cut and formed plateSilhouettes, letterforms and pierced detail
  • Cast metal elementsWhere a modelled form is wanted rather than a fabricated one
  • Integrated LED lightingSpecified and routed at design stage, not retrofitted
  • Patina and powder coat finishesAntique bronze, brass, weathered metal

Applications

  • City and township landmark markers
  • Anniversary and commemorative installations
  • Civic plazas, roundabouts and entry gateways
  • Corporate and campus entrance statements
  • Illuminated public art for night viewing

How the work is delivered

  1. Site survey — sight-lines, approach direction, viewing distances, available power.
  2. Concept and scale drawing shown in the actual setting.
  3. Engineering for wind loading and anchoring method.
  4. Cutting, forming and welding in sections.
  5. Lighting installation and sealing before final assembly.
  6. Patina or coating, then protective finish.
  7. Foundation, transport and on-site assembly.

Frequently asked questions

Who made the N50 installation for Noida’s 50 year celebration?

The N50 metal cast installation was fabricated by Graphic Arts, the public art studio at Lanka, Varanasi. It is a cut-metal typographic piece with a cityscape worked into the numeral faces, internally lit for night viewing.

Can you make an illuminated landmark for our city or campus?

Yes — city-name markers, anniversary numerals and campus landmarks are core work. Lighting is designed in from the start rather than bolted on. Give us the site, the sight-lines and the available power and we will work up a proposal.

How are these installations secured?

Foundation-anchored or ballasted depending on the site, and always engineered for local wind loading. For public plazas we also detail out sharp edges at hand height and seal all electrical work with separate maintenance access.
